Analyzing “Commercial Banking Here and Now”

--

This article is by Melissa Fisher who has first-hand experience in the banking field allowing for an interesting point of view on the topic. The idea is that most bankers have traditional beliefs and don't adapt well to rapidly changing technology. Banking employees who are able to adapt/cope with the changes with technology in the banking industry are able to advance further than those who cant utilize new technology to their advantage. In the article, Melissa states, “The employees that take the time to really learn these systems are the ones that come out on top”(Fisher,2020). In other words, the bankers who put in the work to truly understand how to optimize the new computer systems will be the ones to be the most successful. While online banking and smartphone apps are already starting to take over the number of human jobs needed for a banking company and the number of human jobs taken by technology will continue to increase. Many old banking systems such as ALS banking that have been around since the 1980s are now being replaced with new technology systems. This article shows ways that employees can use technology to impress high up management and potentially improve their status in the company. Fisher goes on to state, “Through my experience you can see that technology is ever-changing the world”(Fisher,2020). This article is more first-hand support that technology is changing many aspects of the world and computer systems are simplifying and replacing human jobs. The future of banking and many workplaces are going to be through the use of computer systems that can work more efficiently than humans. This article gives a good insight into the changes taking place in the banking industry with new technology taking over traditional ways causing employees to adapt or fall behind. My key philosophy to judging an employee is work ethic, whether or not an employee is willing to put in the time to learn, adapt, grow, collaborate, etc and work ethic something in question when looking at technology taking over human jobs. On one hand, the article talks about hope employees who put the time in (have a good work ethic) to learn the new technology systems are more successful than those who do not put the time in. If a computer or some system takes over a human job then work ethic is pretty much discarded because I don't see a way to evaluate technology’s work ethic in the workplace.
